The lodges are clean and the setting is lovely, but the hot tub was the main reason we booked this break for our daughter’s 16th birthday, and it didn’t work properly. It cooled down quickly on the first night, which we put down to the cold weather. We left it heating overnight, but in the morning it was still cold at just 20C. An hour later, after checking it was set correctly, it hadn’t warmed up. The numbers in the welcome pack went to voicemail, and there was no on-site reception to report it to. I eventually found the out-of-hours maintenance number in an email. The man who answered said they already knew the hot tub was broken because they’d been to our lodge several times. He suggested adding more hot water, said he was busy and might come by in a couple of hours, but never showed up. We tried draining and refilling it, but the water still wasn’t hot enough, and the jets and lights didn’t work either. There was no help or service, no way to complain, and no apology, alternative hot tub or refund offered. We were very unhappy, and it felt like a waste of money.

The cabin was beautiful and very clean, and the Black Bull Inn next door was a lovely bonus with tasty food. We had a great stay overall and will definitely return. The bed was uncomfortable, though, and when we checked we found some slats missing. Communication before the visit wasn’t good, but they made up for that while we were there.

The hot tub under the stars in the quiet countryside was the best part. We could relax together with a glass of wine after exploring, and the peaceful, private setting made it easy to switch off. The accommodation was spotless, cosy and nicely decorated, with thoughtful touches. The hosts were welcoming while giving us plenty of privacy, and had everything ready, including fluffy towels, robes and a few local goodies. We came away feeling refreshed and closer again. It was an amazing break from start to finish, and we’ll return. A lovely choice for a couple’s romantic escape or special weekend away. 💕

We were disappointed with Black Bull no2. We’d paid extra for cake and balloons and to bring our dog for my partner’s surprise birthday treat, but there were several issues that should be easy and inexpensive to fix. On arrival we found food behind the dining table seating, holes in the door and wall, rusty radiators, scratched, well-used plates, stained chairs, and an overflowing skip right outside. The boiler kept running because hot water was pouring from the hot tub fill-up hose outside. I left a voice message for maintenance, the only contact option, but nobody got back to me. I worried we’d run out of gas while making dinner, once we’d had to look up how to get the oven working. There were instructions, but they weren’t enough unless you already knew how, so I gave up on using the grill to make the birthday boy cheese on toast. The TV also kept switching off by itself. At our age, walking around the cabin to reach the hot tub wasn’t appealing, especially with the slippery decking. The cabin is in a lovely village, with the beach 10-15 minutes away on foot, but it wasn’t the experience we hoped for. Hopefully the cabins nearer the field are better.

After a few problems with the lodge, which Ant from the onsite pub eventually sorted out, we had a really lovely stay. The lodge was nice and well equipped for four people. The bar onsite was lovely too, and the staff were so friendly that we wished we’d spent more time there. Great location, with a 10-minute walk to the beach and Bridlington about 10 minutes away by car or taxi.
