Dacre Lakeside Park

The food on site was tasty and good value, and the staff were friendly. We had a lovely view from the pod, though getting to the toilet and shower meant a bit of a walk at night. Not much fun in the rain.

Once we got into the lodge, it was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed for a few quiet days. The hot tub was warm and clean, with a nice view over the pond. The welcome at reception was a rough start after a drive of more than three hours. The receptionist came across as rude and wasn’t helpful at all. There’s a little village nearby with a nice pizza shop and a couple of grocery shops. Avoid the village chippy, though. We paid over £20 for two lots of fish and chips, they tasted burnt and left a nasty taste, so we threw them straight in the bin.

The tourer pitches feel like an afterthought in a park that could be incredible. Our pitches were tatty, the rubbish skip was overflowing, and the washrooms were filthy. The electric bollard was dodgy and kept tripping; it wouldn’t reset until an electrician fixed it, and we had to keep topping it up with tokens. Arriving with our 10 metre tourer outfit, we couldn’t tell where to park between the busy roads. The receptionist even asked if we were in the car park.

A great little site. Just note that the camping field has no electric hook-ups. They’re only available if you have a caravan.
