Dan welcomed me when I arrived, and he was polite and professional. We had a good natter at the bar while I was having a pint. He’s clearly passionate about his job and takes pride in it, which you don’t see often at places I’ve stayed before. Hats off to him for doing such a great job. The place was very clean and tidy, and the room and bed were comfortable. I didn’t have dinner, but breakfast was amazing and tasty. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say. Thanks again, I look forward to staying here again.

The meal was the best we’ve had in a while, and we had it on Valentine’s Day too. I started with halloumi fries, then had the fish and chips. Hubby’s mixed grill was perfect. The food was really great, and Hannah was especially attentive. Thanks, Pine Martin.

We stop at The Pine Marten four or five times a year on our regular trips between Newcastle and Scotland, both ways. It’s a handy dog-friendly break for our pug Betty, and they provide water and treats, which is a lovely touch. This visit we had the steak and Malbec pie, one with chips and one with mash. Both were hot, tasty, and excellent, well beyond what you might expect from a chain pub. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we had what we needed. With McDonald’s just across the road, we don’t understand why anyone would pick it when proper food here costs about the same. It’s consistently good, and we highly recommend it.

I was here for six nights for work. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfy. There’s a good restaurant with good food, friendly staff, and a great pint of Guinness.
