Travelodge Dundee Central

The room was large and spotless, with a lovely view, and the evening and morning staff were lovely. I appreciated having reception’s number on my room card in case anything came up. It helped me feel safe travelling solo. Breakfast was easy to get down the road at Tebay, and the room was super reasonable for the price.

We had a brilliant Friday-to-Monday stay at the Dundee Central Travelodge. The location is great for seeing what Dundee has to offer, and we’d recommend it for a few quiet nights away with plenty to do in the daytime. We found the hotel easily enough, though we had to reroute the sat nav to the car park round the back. There were loads of spaces and it was close to the entrance. Our corner room was spacious and clean, and, as always, the bed was so comfy.

We booked for the weekend of 13th September while taking our son to university. The receptionist was lovely, and the basic reception area was adequate. But the lift was out of order, so we had to carry our luggage up three flights. The hall carpets and decor looked tired, and the building smelled old. Our room was sparse and felt too large for its furniture. The air freshener was overpowering and nauseating, and the bathroom reminded us of a prison prefab suite. The whole room felt grubby and uncomfortable, so I spoke to the receptionist, who agreed to email her supervisor about a refund, and we left. Four weeks later I’m still chasing it, with only £43 refunded so far. Travelodge customer support and service have been awful. I won’t use them again. We stayed at the nearby Premier Inn instead, which was so much better. I’d recommend it without hesitation.

I’ve been stopping here once or twice a week for nearly a year. The location is spot on, since I like visiting the adjacent pure gym, and the staff are always friendly. I feel sorry for them, though, because there seems to be only one person on duty at a time to run the whole building. That seems standard at the Travelodges I visit around the country. The main problem is how freezing the rooms are at this time of year. The tiny wall-mounted heaters don’t come close to warming them up. I’m typing this in bed wearing my full work clothes and a beanie hat.
