Travelodge Dundee Strathmore Avenue

This is my go-to Dundee spot when I’m going to events at Mains Castle or elsewhere in the city. It’s also fairly close to Dundee Law, a nice walk with great city views. The bar is well stocked, and breakfast has lots of cooked and continental choices. The staff are always so nice and friendly. I’ve stayed here many times and it’s always been great. It’s an older building, but the rooms have been kept modern.

AVOID IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A FAMILY HOTEL. Our stay last weekend was absolutely horrendous, and we had to move to another hotel for health and safety reasons. The room stank of smoke, with stains around the bathroom fan that looked like people had been smoking in there. Around 5:30 pm, the hallway was smoky too, and someone was smoking in the next room. I reported it to reception and was told they’d check, but nothing was done. The same smell was there when I woke up the next morning. I reported it again and was told it was too early to deal with it. There were other problems too, including someone I suspect was a prostitute hanging around outside and in reception the night before and in the morning. I didn’t feel safe staying with my 8-year-old daughter, so we checked out and moved hotels. The hotel is refusing a full refund, so I’m disputing the charges through my credit card.

The room was a decent size, clean and quiet, though the bed was uncomfortable. The corridors smelled of weed, and the bar had little seating, choice or staff. We arrived at 3.40 and no one was at reception. After we rang, a staff member came down but wasn’t sure whether our room was ready. It was, luckily, but we couldn’t get in until 4. The room smelled strongly of bleach, so we had to leave the window open to air it out.

The cleaning staff were lovely, and Mike was so helpful and kind. He took time to chat and ask if we’d enjoyed our vacation. The pregnant girl was also very good and went above and beyond for us. I had a less helpful experience with the foreign girl at reception when I asked for extra milk, as I drink lots of tea. She acted as if the milk belonged to her.
