The whole house was spotless, and I’m hoping to come back later this year. It’s a self-catering cottage in a lovely, peaceful spot. The nearest neighbours we saw were sheep, though there are two other cottages for rent here as well. There are two single beds, a king-size bed and a double, all with lovely comfortable mattresses. Towels are nice and thick, and there are plenty of saucepans if you want to cook. Tea, coffee and things like salt, pepper, ketchup and brown sauce are supplied. The kitchen has a fridge and a table that seats six. One tip for finding it: put Stowhill Farm Cottages into your satnav, not the postcode, or you might end up at an actual farm instead of the cottages.

We had a really relaxing New Year's Eve break here for a couple of days. The views and scenery were amazing, and the clean cottage was lovely, with good amenities. It's a great place to get away from city life, while still being about 20 minutes from Durham and 40 from Newcastle. Rachel and Craig were friendly and accommodating. We'd definitely return. Thank you!

We found the location remote but well placed, with easy access to the Pennines, Durham, Newcastle and the North East Coast. Lanchester has good local amenities too. Our family of four had lovely accommodation, and the hosts gave us a warm welcome. It’s a perfect cosy cottage for a rural getaway, and we’d happily recommend it and stay again. Thanks, Rachel.

The countryside is beautiful, and we loved the sheep. Inside, the cottage was beautiful too, with a great kitchen for cooking, soft cosy beds and everything clean. Rachel and Craig are welcoming, efficient hosts. The cottages are a long way from the crowds, yet well equipped and so clean that I wondered if I was the first guest after a full refurbishment.
