The food was the highlight of our short stay. On steak night I had a fillet cooked just how I like it, rare, with salad, onion rings and chips. The next night’s special was rib-eye with jumbo garlic king prawns, absolutely beautiful. The bar and restaurant had a friendly feel, and the food was superb. Prices for the rooms, food and drinks were fantastic value. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely en suite, and everyone was welcoming. There’s also a free forest walk directly opposite, great if you like walking or have a dog. I’d definitely recommend the place.

We spent four days eating our way through the Royal Oak menu. The food was excellent as ever, with friendly, attentive service and competitive prices that felt like really good value. Sonia is a brilliant cook. We’d hoped to stay at the Royal as well, but it was fully booked this time. Good to see a pub thriving, long may it continue. We’ll definitely be back.

A quiet, pleasant pub where I got two of the best nights’ sleep I’ve had in a long time. The food was good, and it’s a relaxing place to spend time. Staff were helpful and friendly. Thanks very much, and I hope I can return soon.

The rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable, and breakfast came in delicious, generous portions. I stayed with two friends while we explored Durham and the surrounding area, and we couldn’t have asked for a better visit to The Royal Oak Inn. Everyone on staff was friendly and accommodating. I’d recommend it!

The meals were amazing. We had both breakfast and Sunday dinner at The Royal Oak, and my partner and I would happily return. It’s a lovely pub with a good range of beers and ciders on tap, plus a nice, spacious room for our weekend stay. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, especially Sonia and Ian, the landlords. We’d gladly recommend it to anyone staying nearby. H+G
