We spent time in the pretty cottage garden watching swifts swoop overhead, with countryside all around and the castle in view. Inside, it’s cosy and quirky, with period details throughout. A perfect little cottage in a tidy village.

The big garden slopes down towards the River Derwent, with mature apple, pear and plum trees, and you can spot Ayton castle in the distance. The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable, with everything we needed. We parked on the road outside, and it made a great base for visiting Scarborough, Filey, Whitby and Bridlington. Such a lovely place, highly recommended.
I was only there to visit someone, so I can’t really speak to staying there. I did see a castle, which makes the name seem fitting, and the houses looked nice. There’s a lot of wood in the decor, if that’s your thing, and the effort put into the look of the place was clear.
Really comfortable, well-equipped properties, with lovely views. A very nice place to stay.
