Eastbourne Riviera Hotel

The sea view turned out to be a view of some kind of wall, and the price felt far too high for what we got. Inside, the rooms were bare, the bedding wasn't comfortable, and the outside tables were kept indoors. The TV was very old, and the doors were thin and old too. I wouldn't return.

It's right on the seafront, with clean, tiny rooms, decent toilets and a generally decent standard. Staff were around all the time. Finding your room feels like navigating a maze, though, and the rooms aren't soundproof. Parking is on the road and can be arranged at a cheaper rate through the hotel, but during busy periods it's almost impossible to find a space in the daytime.

The hotel has a great location, which makes the state of things more disappointing. The bed creaked and nothing felt comfortable, and there isn't really a bar. Painting work started around 8:30 in the morning, with a ladder banging outside the window. Plenty of hotels along the beachfront could use some attention. The Riviera seems to be getting a paint job, oddly during peak holiday season, but some facilities still need updating.

The location was very central, our room was spotless, and the staff were brilliant. Breakfast was tasty too. The rooms are such a shame, though, because they're very dated. In our room, the electrics ran from a main socket through an extension lead, which didn't feel very safe. I'd definitely return if they spent some money on the rooms.
