The bed was comfy and the sheets were clean, but the headboard was dirty and the TV remote was disgusting. We were told breakfast wasn’t possible because the workmen hadn’t turned up and the dining area was unfinished. They suggested Morrison's instead. The off-road parking is just one driveway, so it could be awkward if guests leave at different times. We couldn’t use it because it “wasn’t finished,” so we parked on the street. When we checked out at 7:45am after two nights, we had to ring the bell. A woman came to the door in her dressing gown looking very dishevelled and asked how many nights we’d stayed. She did take money off for the missing breakfast, but really? No way to run a B&B. One star is generous.

The landlady is so friendly and helpful, and couldn’t do enough for us. The staff were lovely as well. This was my second stay, and I’ll certainly be back. The rooms are lovely and comfortable, with a nice en-suite shower room, and breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. It’s very central, with a bus stop right outside for getting into Edinburgh.

We stayed one night at Emerald Guest House, and the house was neat, tidy, and well equipped. Breakfast was amazing, with lots of choice served in a lovely conservatory. Getting there was easy by car or bus, with a stop right outside. I’d definitely recommend Emerald House.

We had a four-bed room, and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, too. Emerald is in a great spot for a day in central Edinburgh, with the number 3 bus across the road taking you there and back.

Very sad and disappointing. We arrived and nobody answered the door until we knocked hard. An older lady opened it, apparently drunk, and said she couldn’t have guests because she wasn’t feeling well. We’d booked months ahead and nobody had told us. She said she’d arranged another house for us, motel-style and without breakfast, and we had to pay again.
