David of Blackwater Marina recommended this place while we were mooring overnight. We called first because reviews said Friday nights could be busy with locals. Since it was just two of us and our little dog, they were relaxed and said we could simply come along. The bar had plenty of locals, and all the laughter and happy chatter made for a really jolly atmosphere. Everyone was friendly. The food reviews are spot on: the meat and potato pie was fantastic, and I was allowed to swap the peas for their famous, delicious red cabbage. A must! My husband had the Chicken Thai Penang, which was delicious too. Portions were very generous. There’s a lovely beer garden with comfortable seating and picnic-style benches in the late sunshine. Really friendly place, top-notch food. Wish we were locals. Thanks for a special last night in Ellesmere.

Easy to find, with loads of parking, this little pub and bed and breakfast was just right for a stopover. The room had a comfortable bed and a decent shower, and the breakfast kept me going for virtually the whole day. The place has a nice theme and a relaxed feel, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I’d definitely look to book again if I’m heading this way.

The pub has loads of character, with tables tucked into lots of little rooms, and a lovely garden seating area. The toilets were very good, the beer was nice, and the service was friendly. We’d worked up an appetite with a big walk before lunch, and the generous portions hit the spot. Both our starters and mains were absolutely delicious. It’s the best food we’ve had in Shropshire so far!

I was very happy with my room at The Sun Inn, where I stayed for one night while exploring Shropshire and Cheshire. There are only 3 rooms here. The staff and locals were all friendly, and it’s a lively pub with top-quality food. The Chicken Panang curry was spot on.
