We chose to hold a family party here after recently enjoying a meal. The carvery was cooked really well, and the afternoon went smoothly thanks to the manager and staff. They also let us use a room, which gave us a nice bit of privacy. The team were friendly, professional, kind and proactive. The food was spot on both times, well cooked and seasoned. We’ll definitely dine here again, and I’d recommend it for a celebration or just food, drinks or a game of pool.
The well inside is an interesting feature, and the staff were friendly. I enjoyed lunch here on New Year's Day with my girlfriend. My sirloin was cooked medium and tasted delicious. Some main dishes weren’t available, even though it wasn’t particularly busy. The menu has since been updated.
I went in with no expectations, but after speaking with the new owner I saw the place differently. The food was delicious, the drinks came straight away, and our meal arrived in about 10 minutes. Everyone made us feel welcome. Since it was my birthday, he went out of his way to bring me a plate saying happy birthday and a brownie on the house. The few staff on duty did clear and wipe tables quickly, and it was the busiest I’ve seen the place in a while, which is good. But poor service at the bar and carvery let the whole visit down. I’ve been back a few times to see whether things improved, and unfortunately they haven’t. More beers were unavailable than available, the fridges were nearly empty, and half the menu was off. There was a huge queue with only five staff in the building, and I assumed there was just one person in the kitchen. I ended up with the carvery. The beef looked like it had been sitting there since last week, and was dry and tough as old boots. The turkey was dry too, and the portion was so small I barely had a mouthful. The server put the Yorkshire pudding and a stuffing ball on my plate by hand. He had blue gloves on, but also handled receipts and touched the meat with those gloves, so cross contamination seemed unavoidable. He then wandered around tables between serving people. The vegetable choice was okay, but the gravy was like water. Hopefully the place can turn things around and win customers back.
It had been more than five years since I last came, and the new menu was amazing. The food was delicious, piping hot and there was plenty on the plate. I had the begi burger with cauliflower, while my husband chose the pie and chips. It’s the best meal I’ve had in a long time. We’ll definitely be back.
