We found a table in the dining room despite not booking, and had some really delicious food. The staff we spoke with were friendly, and there was a great atmosphere in the pub. We’d stopped on the way to Dartmoor after spotting it just off the main road. There looked to be plenty of roadside parking.

The roast was delicious, all home cooked, and the sticky toffee pudding was the best I’ve ever had. The beautiful old pub was busy, but the staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful, and they fitted us in for Sunday lunch. We were travelling from the Isle of Wight towards West Cornwall. They had some lovely local ales on tap too. Thanks, we’ll come back next time we’re heading west.

We had the two-course deal at £22 per person, including chicken parfait, wild mushroom balls (I can’t remember what they’re called), hake and pork duo. No photos, sorry, but both the food and service were excellent, and I’m already looking forward to going back. We’d booked a table, which was handy because the place was buzzing, with every table full and a crowd at the bar.

The food was absolutely stunning, and the room was nice too. Staff were lovely, and the pub is in a great spot just off the M5. I found it while looking for somewhere to stay overnight on the way to Cornwall, after my hubby asked me to sort out a stop. What a find. We really enjoyed being there and would love to return soon.

A hearty Sunday roast is well worth coming for, and they certainly don’t skimp on the portions. The welcome was warm and the hospitality was great, even with things very busy. It’s an informal local pub with a relaxing feel. There’s a good selection of the usual lagers and ales on tap, local ciders, plenty of bottled beer, plus the expected wines and spirits. Good quality and generous servings, all with a smile.
