Orchard Hotel

A lovely man even carried our bags all the way up to the room. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, and the service was absolutely wonderful, the best I've had in Scotland. Make time to stop for a drink or try the excellent food. Highly recommend!

The room wasn't as shown online and was pretty grim and old, with mold in the bathroom beside the shower. We had booked for three people, with somewhere for our bikes, planning to cycle to the orchard hotel. On arrival, though, there was a noisy pub under the hotel, and our room was right above the bar. We could hear people and music very loudly through the walls. Staff asked us to wait half an hour when we requested a room change, which made it seem like a move wasn't possible. They should have been direct. We ended up cycling 40 km back home and cutting the trip short because we couldn't find a place to stay. I wouldn't recommend it if you need a quiet place to rest your head.

We booked a four-bedroom flat for four people, expecting to have the whole place to ourselves as the listing described. Instead, we were assigned flat 15, which had two double bedrooms, and the host, who also owns the Orchard Hotel, had already let one of those rooms to another guest. When we pointed out the mismatch, the host offered another flat with the same two-bedroom limit. That still wasn't what we'd booked. The host said we couldn't cancel and wouldn't get a refund. We had to take it to Airbnb, which decided we hadn't received the accommodation we reserved and issued a full refund. That came through Airbnb's protection policies, not any goodwill or professionalism from the host. This was more than a small booking mix-up. The listing gave a misleading impression about the property and whether it was for our exclusive use. The host had double-booked the space, then pressured us to accept a different arrangement and refused to cancel when we raised the issue. It caused unnecessary stress and wasted time at the start of our trip. Other reviews for this listing seem to describe similar problems with overbooking, inaccurate descriptions and resistance to valid cancellations. If clear communication, accurate listings and respect for your reservation matter to you, I'd strongly advise looking elsewhere.

The room was filthy, with dirty sheets, black things all over the dirty carpet and stains on the walls. My daughter and her partner had booked to stay at the hotel but were put across the street in a room that felt unsafe. They were two young women on their own and didn't want to stay, so they contacted home. It was a room in a house shared with other people, and they didn't feel safe there. Nobody helped them. They hadn't been told when booking that they'd be across the road with a shared bathroom. If they'd known, they wouldn't have booked, or would have asked to stay in the main hotel. After I spoke to your bot, I was assured they'd be moved to the main hotel. They packed their things and went there, only to be told there were no rooms and they couldn't move. At midnight, the two 18-year-old girls left and made their way home. I emailed you right away on Friday night. It's now Monday night and I still haven't had a reply. I didn't want to leave a public review, but you gave me no other option. Please reply to my email and arrange a full refund. This is absolutely unacceptable!
