We could really take in the view over breakfast, and the food was excellent. Our sea-view room was fabulous, and the dining room had that same wonderful outlook. It got dark around 5:30, so the view was harder to enjoy at dinner. We stayed two nights in late February on one of the hotel's winter deals and loved it. Everyone we met on staff was professional, helpful and personable. We're already looking forward to coming back.

The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere, and we enjoyed a drink in the pub. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and served at the table, and dinner in the restaurant was delicious, though pricey. Our land-view room was large and comfortable with plenty of storage. The double bed was two large singles pushed together, so it was big. There's parking, though it can get busy in the evening. Two things to keep in mind: the hotel is spread out, with some stairs to the upper rooms, and the walk into town is about 10 minutes but includes a steep hill if you have mobility issues.

The views were breathtaking, but we didn't enjoy our stay. We were there with my sisters in deluxe rooms because I'm disabled and needed a walk-in shower. The room was spacious and the bathroom modern, but neither was cleaned to a high standard. The carpets in the rooms and corridors were disgusting, and all the restaurant chairs were filthy. The food was average and could have been better. Afternoon tea also felt poor value for the money; we've had much better for the same price. Staff were willing to help, though they didn't always get things right. Nobody told us how long the walk to our rooms would be because of their location. It was exhausting for me even with seated breaks on the way back and forth. When booking, all we were told was that there were about eight steps to the lift. If we'd known about the long walk, we'd have booked elsewhere. We also had to wait a long time for maintenance to fix one room's door lock. The allergen notice was by the bar, where you wouldn't see it unless you went into the bar area. Luckily, we hadn't ordered anything that would have caused us a problem. That notice should be in the restaurant too.

The included breakfast was a wonderful start to the day, with lots to choose from, and we ate at the pub three nights. The atmosphere there was great, and the food and drinks were delicious. We stayed a week, three nights in a basic room and four in the family room, and both were lovely. Room 223 was very modern and very bright, with a lovely bay window, a sitting area and a large bathroom window. Room 227 was more dated, but much bigger, with a couch, another sitting area, one window with a small balcony, and a mini fridge. Everyone we met was great. Tom led the breakfast crew and worked incredibly hard, always attentive and kind. Sam at breakfast was so attentive and made us feel special each day. Sam at the front desk was professional and kind, and helped with a few requests, including our room switch and upgrade. Sid in housekeeping was a real pro, cleaning our room quickly and carefully and making everything perfect. We'd absolutely recommend this hotel, 10/10.

We had exemplary meals at both breakfast and dinner, and the service at the desk was warm and beautiful. This is an outstanding landmark hotel from yesteryear, right on the harbor, with great views from the room and both restaurants. The rooms were spacious and modernized, with great features. Strongly recommended.
