The Princess Royal

The rooms could use a refresh, but they’re spacious and very comfortable. We had a lovely stay, with super friendly and helpful staff. The location was perfect for us.

There were four of us for a fantastic Sunday roast at the Princess Royal yesterday. Everything tasted fresh and clearly had been cooked from scratch, which I really appreciated. The portions were good, and the Yorkshire puddings were enormous and crunchy. I loved the dining room and its decor too. We’ll be back.

The food was nice, but the menu is limited and the steak option especially expensive. We thought the bill seemed high, then saw they’d added a £23 service charge at 15%. Nobody mentioned it while we were paying. Keep an eye out for the charge, as it made our family meal at the pub very expensive.

We couldn’t warm milk for our two toddlers, aged 1 and 3, because there was no microwave in the room. They had to drink cold milk overnight, and going down to the lobby each time would have been too much, especially during night wakings. We were visiting from Canada and arrived in London on December 14th, hoping to stay near Tilford. The princess Royal was in a perfect spot, a 7-minute drive from Mubarak Mosque, islamabad, which was the main reason for our trip. We were very pleased to book at short notice, and the staff were kind and helpful. Our room was clean and pretty. On checkout day, Tuesday, December 16th, I felt quite unwell from the long flight, jetlag and lack of sleep. The front desk staff understood and, after checking with housekeeping, let us stay until 1pm instead of 11am. The housekeeping workers were just as kind and understanding. When the key fob didn’t work as we checked out, staff held the door open while we loaded our bags and got the toddlers safely into the car. We really appreciated that and have the highest regard for the staff.
