Braemar House

There was fruit and muffins in the hallway on the way to the room, and the room itself had a kettle with coffee, tea, milk and Biscoff biscuits. Everything was kept very clean. The high street is about a 10 minute walk away.

The rooms were clean and cosy, and the furniture was lovely. Breakfast was set out by the entrance, and there’s a small garden outside. But after hiking up Ben Nevis, a freezing cold shower was a miserable surprise. We’d been told the day before arriving that hot water was working at low pressure, but it wasn’t really usable. They said work on the water line would continue until the end of May, so they already knew there was an issue. I wish they’d been more upfront sooner. The WiFi also went out for quite a while on our second day. No one told us that the line and password had changed, either. I’m sure the water problem will be fixed eventually, but a bit more honesty would’ve helped.

We had a great view of Ben Nevis and the railway from our room, and even saw the Jacobite pass right by the window. The room was neat and really nice. There are only 2 bathrooms shared among the guests. The toilet sometimes needed several flushes to clear properly, and the shower took a few minutes to warm up. Despite those issues, I’d recommend it.

The shared bathroom was used by several guests, and the people in the room beside ours occupied it for about 2 hours on the evening we stayed. The room was fairly spacious, with a kettle for coffee and a TV. Cleaning could’ve been better, though: the window sill and the outside of the kettle were dirty. We’d been told there would be continental breakfast options in our room, but there weren’t any.
