Old Embassy House

The Menabilly room was immaculate, stylish and really spacious, with a very comfortable bed. Max & Debs made us feel at home throughout our lovely stay at the Old Embassy House. It’s close to town but still peaceful, and they serve a brilliant Cornish breakfast and have plenty of suggestions for things to do around Fowey. I’d highly recommend it to anyone staying here.

Breakfast was a highlight: my full English was cooked beautifully with notably good ingredients. I missed the haddock and poached eggs on the other side of the menu on the first morning, so there’s a reason to come back! The whole house was immaculately clean, lovingly presented and sumptuously decorated, and our room had all the facilities we needed. Max and Debs made the end of our nine days in Cornwall a perfect two-night stop above Fowey. From booking onward, communication was excellent, and they clearly explained the COVID-19 protections. Guests followed the rules carefully. Max even called while we were on our way to say we could check in whenever suited us, since the room had been empty the night before. That thoughtful message let us unpack and change before exploring. Parking was right outside, with an easy short walk into town. They deserve all their high ratings, and we were grateful for their hospitality.

I travel for work, and this Bed and Breakfast puts many expensive hotels to shame. The rooms are beautifully designed and the whole place is immaculate, with a breakfast that’s hard to beat. The owners were so helpful, nothing felt like too much trouble, and they knew the area inside out. We had a great weekend at the Old Embassy House and wouldn’t hesitate to book again. This hidden gem is getting popular, so book early.

The hosts make you feel very welcome, and the Old Embassy is a five-star stay in my book. Rooms are nicely appointed with a nautical feel, and breakfast is excellent, with fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals and a range of cooked options. Can’t fault it. A must if you’re visiting Fowey.
