The Place To Stay

Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked, though a bit overdone. Room #4 was warm in April 2026, and the farm dogs were lovely and friendly. It’s a working farm, so the rats in the roof and flies come with the setting. I think the rooms are converted stables. The en-suite finish is rough in places, with washers on the taps needing replacement, holes in the tiled wall behind the sink base that could be filled, and a bit of a draught. The shower was nice and hot, but the en-suite smelled of sewage, perhaps because there’s a septic tank rather than mains drainage. The double bed is two singles pushed together. These are observations for the maintenance team, not things that can be fixed on the day, so set your expectations accordingly. Extroverts may enjoy the 15-minute chat on arrival. If you’re more introverted, a room key and a folder with the rules might suit you better. We’d had a long journey and just wanted to get to our room. I stood in the cold rain with the dog because we couldn’t bring it into the house, which was fair enough, while my partner got the full introduction. Not ideal, but rules are rules. At The White Hart, the owner’s son is the cook. The stone-cooked pizzas were good, but the peas were cold and uncooked, and the pies were hard and crusty. The young staff are trying their best. The Soda & Lime needed ice and a slice, rather than a small dash of lime and a glass filled to the brim with soda. You get the picture, lol! ;)

The family made us very welcome, and the views are beautiful. Breakfast was really good too. Longleat and other places are not far away. We’d definitely come back and stay again.

We had a lovely time in Room 2, and it was great to come back to The Place to Stay and see Joss again. Breakfast was delicious, and sitting in the garden to finish our pot of tea was so nice. Thanks to Caitlyn for the great breakfast service. We’re looking forward to returning.

A friendly host and a really good cooked breakfast, with plenty of other choices as well. The location is great, just a short drive from Longleat. I’ll definitely stay again.
