Getting to campus was easy, though town is about a 30-minute walk away. JMSV is modern and well looked after, with a safe, quiet setting that works well for studying and spending time with others. The safeguarding officers and office staff were friendly and easy to approach, and helped students feel supported. A hassle-free, welcoming place for students at the Scottish Borders Campus.

My daughter has loved living here for the past two years. It’s bright and modern, with good facilities and nice staff, and the university is just a two-minute walk away.

The place is quiet, clean and new, with good security. The en-suite was good, though the shower hose leaked a bit, and the bedrooms make you wait a few seconds before they unlock for some reason. There’s a shared kitchen on each corridor and a lounge with a big TV, but its reception was very poor. The kitchens are under-equipped, with only a few saucepans and no tea towels. It feels like a hotel, except there’s no TV in the rooms, bar or mini-bar.

Stayed two nights with my teenage son, and we each had a single room with an en-suite. Very clean and good value, with a utilitarian IKEA look and lino instead of carpet. The one letdown was breakfast, unless they’ve improved the bread since then, I’d skip it.

The free WiFi takes a couple of minutes to set up, but you have to ask reception how, since the welcome book didn’t explain it. I stayed in the private “corporate” corridor across from reception, overlooking the car park. It had 15 double rooms, a kitchen at one end and a lounge at the other. The room was nice and the power shower was great. You need a keycard for the room and shared areas. There’s no room TV, and the lounge TV reception was rubbish. The kitchen was basic, without tea towels, so I used the hand towel from my room. Reasonable price, and the location is okay if you have a car.
