OYO The Royal Hotel

Kash & Vicki made the stay special. They're so warm and welcoming, and we had a lovely few nights here. We'll definitely stay again, it's just a matter of when.

The bed was the only thing I liked, which is why it got two stars instead of one. The heating was broken and wouldn't turn down, the room was dirty, and the bathroom was covered in mold. Service was appalling. My partner and I waited 20 minutes to be checked in and out, and the people working in the bar looked genuinely angry to have customers. The room key was bent, and the floorboards made every step audible throughout the hotel. There are a lot of structural issues, too. A mattress, a shopping trolley, and a load of litter had been dumped outside the room. It was a terrible stay.

It was awful, shabby in no flattering sense of the word. There was no toilet roll in the bathroom, no hot water at the sink, and the shower only trickled. The student accommodation right across the road was noisy until midnight. There wasn't any milk or sugar for tea either. I got a last-minute deal so it was cheapish, but still not worth the price.

The rooms are very basic, though it's a cheap hotel for a reason. The staff were marvellous, and the bar was cosy and busy enough, with a good choice of beers, including Madri & Perroni at £4.30. It's around a 20-minute walk to the Metro Centre. I'd happily return.
