The rooms are always spotless, with good hot water, a hairdryer, kettle and a decent shower. Breakfast is very good too. It’s welcoming, clean, comfortable and excellent value, even if it isn’t fancy. I like that it has character instead of feeling like a bland, faceless Travelodge, with its amazing cactus collections and tanks of tropical fish. The staff give it a real family feel. I always love staying here.

The room was clean and tidy, and the staff were pleasant and welcoming. It’s a quiet place with ample parking and a good menu. The price for an ensuite room was reasonable, and the high street is an ideal 10-minute walk away.

The beds are comfortable and the rooms stay warm, but the food has become terrible. Breakfast used to be dependable. On my last stay, the bacon was like cardboard, the cheap sausage had leathery skin, the scrambled eggs were rubbery and the beans were mushy. It seemed like everything had been cooked hours earlier and left in a bain marie. Dinner was a mistake too, especially with a good restaurant just a minute from the hotel. The place feels stuck in the 1970s, with dated decor, orange pine bedrooms and a depressing bar and lounge.

I only noticed the issues after returning home, despite your saying I raised them during the stay. I have no issue with elderly people or refugees; many people who work for me fall into those groups and work hard. But my partner felt uncomfortable because of workers from the region. You mentioned only the issues you chose to address, which is what I would expect from a hotel that clearly takes little pride in its establishment. Why did I stay? You had already taken payment before I arrived. Given that you refused, I probably made the right choice, or I’d still be waiting for a refund and would have had to pay for another hotel as well. I hope this reaches you well and that you answer all your issues.

The hotel is spacious and airy, with lovely public areas where you can sit and have a drink from the bar. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed good food and lovely service. The bedrooms were spacious and immaculately clean, the beds very comfortable, and there was a TV plus free tea and coffee. Breakfast was amazing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Reception was warm and welcoming too. This was our second stay at the King Charles Hotel, a perfect stop on the way to Calais, only a 45-minute drive. We’ll definitely stay again, highly recommended!
