The steaks were so good that we booked dinner for the next night before we'd even reached pudding. We’d originally planned to eat elsewhere on night two. We stayed two nights at this lovely village pub, and our suite was beautiful, comfortable and spotless. We’d happily return when the weather’s better and we can get more walking in.

The serving staff were lovely, really capable and cheerful, and the pub itself feels welcoming. It’s a shame the meal didn’t match that. We’d heard good things and came in excited for Sunday lunch, but the roast, while cooked well, was bland and unseasoned, with dry, tasteless vegetables. The gravy, which I think was instant, wasn’t very nice either. My wife’s veg Wellington was raw and inedible. They offered us a free dessert to make up for it, so we both chose the crumble described as homemade. The apple seemed tinned to me, and the topping was like raw pastry. We couldn’t eat it. When we mentioned the problems to the man at the bar as we paid, I believe he still charged us for the Wellington but removed the desserts from the bill. With drinks, we paid about £50, and I can’t help feeling cheated. We’re always looking for good local places to eat, but I’m afraid this experience will keep us from coming back.

The family who run this pub are friendly and clearly work hard. We were glad we got the chance to stay. The rooms are gorgeous, with super-comfy beds and nice accommodation. Such a fabulous place, and we’ll definitely try to come back.

After walking from Kington on the Offas Dyke path, we stopped in for lunch and a drink. Both were delicious, and we got a really friendly welcome. The Halloween decorations were great too!

After a walk, this was a great place to stop over, and well worth visiting. It’s a fab village pub on Offa’s Dyke Path, with a traditional bar and a warm welcome. I had the homemade steak and ale pie followed by homemade cheesecake, and both were delicious. The rooms are spotless and modern mini suites, each with its own living area and bathroom.
