Claire was wonderful, nothing was a problem, and the breakfast service was friendly and relaxed. The place felt cosy and welcoming, like home from home, and I loved my stay. It's an old house with plenty of character, so keep in mind it won't have all the bells and whistles of a new hotel. The area is quiet and safe, with an easy walk to the park, art gallery, restaurants and shops. I'll definitely be back!

It was especially convenient for Kelvingrove gallery, with some nice bars and restaurants nearby, although the area felt a little sleepy. We stayed three nights and checked out on Christmas Eve. The guest house wasn't quite what we'd expected, but it had charm, lovely furniture and comfortable amenities, even if nothing felt spectacular. Breakfast was a very nice extra, and we were really happy with the options. The price seemed fair for what we got.

We were welcomed warmly, shown around, and staff helped us to our room and explained how everything worked. My friend is allergic to feathers, and they immediately offered to replace the whole bed while we were out for the evening. Breakfast was amazing, freshly cooked with loads of choices. The guest house is close to some fantastic restaurants and about a 15-minute walk from OVO and SECC. We couldn't fault our stay. Five stars from us! X

The friendly staff at check-in, check-out and breakfast were a real plus. We slept well in the not very large beds, had a partial tree view even from the basement, and found the bathroom pleasantly warm. The à la carte breakfast tasted good, though the coffee was disappointing, just French press and not very tasty. We stayed at Alamo Guest House and had mixed feelings. The historic house and location have promise, but at about £250 a night we expected more. You have to ring to get in, and stairs are the only access to both the entrance and rooms. Breakfast must be booked for a fixed time, which felt restrictive. Our flight was delayed 24 hours; although the booking couldn't be refunded, we provided proof of the cancellation and would have appreciated a goodwill gesture, perhaps a refund for the missed breakfasts. None was offered. The carpet throughout is a matter of taste, and we were assigned a basement room. No park view had been advertised, but we hadn't expected a basement for that price. There was no bathrobe, which would have helped with the shared bathroom, and the toilet needed a long, firm press to flush properly. It felt expensive for what we got.

The area is great, and we found the room cosy, quiet and comfortable. It was exceptionally clean, and we still enjoyed our stay enough that I'd come back. The room was smaller than we'd hoped when we arrived. We'd picked the cheapest option because the prices are high, and although the brochure and website called it 'intimate', the online presentation made Alamo seem more luxurious than it felt in person. We knew when booking that the bathroom was outside the room and didn't mind much; it was nice, with a deep bath, and they supplied lovely robes. The woman who greeted us was super friendly, though her socks made things feel a little unprofessional, almost hostel-like. Breakfast was the disappointing part: it arrived cold and undercooked after an hour, and the staff seemed flustered and unprepared. We were the only people in the breakfast room, so cooking two meals shouldn't have been such an undertaking. We left hungry and disappointed. The server apologized and offered complimentary cream tea, which we appreciated. I suspect something went wrong in the kitchen and that we were just unlucky.
