The rooms themselves are lovely, but the stay felt impersonal and disappointing. On the stairs we could hear staff shouting, swearing and arguing. When we came back after getting married, there wasn’t even a card or message congratulating us. Our mini-break hotel in Oban had found out we’d just married and gave us a card, glasses and prosecco, which made the contrast noticeable. At checkout we didn’t see anyone either. We’d booked three rooms together so friends and family could get ready with me on my wedding day. Breakfast was included and was meant to be brought to the room, but by 09.30 we were all starving, so I had to go downstairs and carry some up myself over all those winding stairs. The food wasn’t great: stale soda bread, sour berries, yoghurt and muesli that weren’t particularly nice. I’d also assumed they’d provide a few more glasses for our family and friends, but they didn’t.

A quirky and enjoyable place to stay, with nice, very clean rooms and a lovely restaurant serving beautiful food. It isn’t central, but works fine for the east side of the city.

The owner was accommodating and just lovely, and the downstairs bar is perfect. My room was cute and comfortable, with incredible views and an amazing bathroom. Everything is designed so well. Breakfast was simple but incredibly well done. I’m still thinking about the toast. Highly recommend.

We stayed one night for a Celtic Connections gig at the Barony Hall, just across Cathedral Square. The bedroom had great views of the cathedral and a huge part of Glasgow, and was immaculate and beautiful. Breakfast at Celentano's was excellent, with fresh, delicious ingredients. My partner had forgotten her iPhone charger and her battery was running low, but Laura came to the rescue and lent us her charger so the phone could get enough charge for the rest of our trip. Great location, highly recommend, and we’ll stay again.

The newly refurbished beer garden looks lovely and has a nice atmosphere. We’re local and would come regularly if the service were more attentive. There’s a one-way system and table service, which are good, but our table clearly hadn’t been wiped and had rings and spills on it. We had one drink, then nobody came round to the garden again. It wasn’t busy, so I’d expected someone to check in. It’s a shame, because it’s such a lovely place.
