I stay here about once a week because I have something on in glasgow every Saturday and live too far away to get home. The staff are always lovely and chatty, and the rooms are cozy. It’s a stunning building, and I’d recommend the place to anyone.

The hostel was quiet, and the other guests were polite and varied. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the amenities, including a kitchen and lounge. The ensuite was comfortable and affordable, and there are grocery shops and cafés nearby. The kitchen had everything needed to store and prepare meals.

The building is beautiful, and I’d definitely stay again. There’s a lovely lounge for reading, a whiteboard listing local events, and a small park with lots of squirrels right beside the hostel. It’s about a 30-minute walk to Glasgow central station, or 10 minutes to the bus station. During my two nights, the staff were lovely, the rooms were very clean and quiet, and the kitchen was well equipped. The beds were really comfy. There aren’t sockets beside the top bunks, but they have extension cords, so it’s easy enough to manage. The bathroom lights are quite bright, so you might want to bring a sleep mask. I always need one in a hostel anyway.

The location is beside a nice park, but a long walk from the city centre. My room was on the third floor of a huge building with no lift, and carrying my luggage up all those stairs was hard, especially after the stressful check-in. There was no soap, shampoo or body wash in the bathroom, and no power socket near my bunk. The payment problems were upsetting, although they didn’t affect the overall score I gave the hostel. I was charged twice when booking, then got one transaction cancelled after complaining to my credit card company. At check-in, even though the property had already put a pre-authorisation on my card and held the money, they said I hadn’t paid. I showed the receptionist my bank statement, and they called the finance department, which authorised my check-in. Then they charged my card again. I’d already run low on money and really needed the money from those extra charges back. Booking support told me the property handled payments, so they couldn’t help. I got desperate and started crying. Only then did a staff member help and issue a refund for the night. I’m very grateful to that person.
