Leonardo Royal Hotel Glasgow

The hotel felt clean and fresh throughout, almost as if it had just been refurbished, and our rooms were immaculate. It’s also very conveniently placed next to the railway station. The tea and coffee setup was the best I’ve seen in a hotel, with a coffee machine, a kettle and five types of tea, including my favourite, Earl Grey. The staff were very helpful, and there’s a lovely bar and restaurant. The gym is modern and well equipped with running machines, free weights and exercise machines. I’ll definitely stay at the Leonardo Royal again on my next Glasgow visit.

The location worked perfectly for our gig, about a 15-20 minute walk from where we needed to be. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the room was warm, comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast both mornings was lovely, especially the omelette bar. We were very happy with the stay and will come back.

We got in at 11AM after a night flight, exhausted, and they let us check in early because a room was ready, even though we hadn’t asked for it. That gave us a chance to rest, which was really kind. The room was comfortable, had everything we needed and looked out over the river. The only downside was the lifts at busy times, as getting up and down in the morning could take a while.

The hotel is lovely and the customer service has been great. All the staff were wonderful, and breakfast had an amazing selection. The omelette bar was a highlight, with a cheerful, chatty chef and great service. Dinner was a very different story and nowhere near four-star quality. I ordered salmon through room service. The bar staff said the grilled salmon was fried in oil, which seemed odd. I think it had actually been baked and forgotten for ages: dry and burnt. It came with chips, the best thing on the plate, plus an overcooked mushroom and a very undercooked tomato. The sauce cost extra and had no flavour. My friend’s chicken that day was dry too. For £23, I expected much better. The other good experiences were somewhat soured by this. With so much competition nearby, I’d urge the hotel to look again at its menu and cooking standards.
