Number 10 Hotel

We went for afternoon tea with a friend using an itison voucher, on Thursday 26 February at 1pm. A very polite receptionist showed us through to a small dining area beside the front bar. It was empty apart from another staff member on a laptop. A male staff member took our drinks order once we'd settled and taken off our coats. The tea and coffee arrived about half an hour before the afternoon tea stand, so we had to ask for refills and for the prosecco I'd ordered. The table was small for all the pots, cups, condiments, plates, and the tiered stand, so I moved some cutlery to another table. The food looked freshly made: four sandwich choices, two warmed sausage rolls, two warm scones with jam and cream, and around ten kinds of bite-size cakes. It felt a little flat with no other diners. A gentleman from what seemed to be a funeral tea used his phone in the room, then another man, apparently staying at the hotel, sat nearby with a pint. His ringtone, playing “hail, hail the celts are here,” rang out loudly several times and he never answered it. The dark wood panelling and seating were brightened by lots of windows at the front. It was clean and very comfortable, and the service was polite and friendly. The afternoon tea was good quality, fresh, and clearly made to order. I'd visit again, perhaps in the restaurant, but preferably not on the day of a big international game. I wasn't staying at the hotel, so can't comment on the rooms.
