The one thing I can say in its favour is that the bed linen was clean. The rest of the place felt old and shabby, with a damp smell, dirty wallpaper and ceiling, and furnishings that badly needed updating. Our carpet was stained, had burn holes, and smelled too. Breakfast was about as basic and cheap as it gets, and the toilet made a lot of noise when flushed. We wanted to leave straight away, but everywhere else was booked. Luckily, we’d only booked one night. I really didn’t want to give it even one star, but had to in order to post this. I won’t be back.

It’s clean, fairly priced, and easy to get to the city centre. One thing to know is that Google’s listing for free breakfast is out of date. Breakfast has always effectively been covered by the higher room rate. Right now you can book room only for less, or choose a room with continental breakfast. If you book room only and decide to add breakfast later, it’s £2.50 per person.

The location is incredible and the price was cheap. That’s the good part. The decor was a letdown, the room smelled damp, and the shower swung between red hot and ice cold. Our towels were basically one towel ripped in half.

It’s a basic place, but clean. The location works well for both the city centre and the Hydro. Breakfast was enough, though there weren’t any cooked choices.
