We stayed for two nights in February 26, and the food and drink arrangements were a mess from start to finish. On Friday evening we were told the bar had no food because of staff shortages. We waited more than half an hour for a drink, then the bar shut at 9:30. The hotel already knew about the staffing problems but hadn’t told us. Breakfast wasn’t available Saturday morning for the same known reason. We’d checked on Friday and been assured the restaurant would be open for our Saturday evening booking. At 8pm, we got back to find both the bar and restaurant closed, so the booking couldn’t be honoured. With no other restaurants within walking distance, we had to take the children by taxi to another Premier Inn for food at 8:40pm. On Sunday, only a continental breakfast was available, again because of staffing issues we weren’t told about until arrival. I complained at the hotel and was told to contact customer service. We could have stayed at a nearby Premier Inn for the same price and had the food and drink facilities we wanted. After a week with no response, despite being told I’d hear back within 48 hours, I chased them. Customer service blamed high demand, which made no sense: the bar was empty when we were there, and staff said they were short staffed. Our taxi driver also said this was a common occurrence with this Premier Inn bar. We’ve stayed at several Premier Inns and never seen management or communication this poor. I felt sorry for the employees, who were clearly stretched. If you have a choice and need anything beyond a bed, pick another hotel.

The room was okay, the staff very friendly, the bed comfortable and the shower worked. The whole place felt a bit tired. At the pub next door there was no draught lager, though that may have been a temporary problem. Dinner was okay, but breakfast took far too long. Three of us arrived when it opened at 6.30am, and our plated meals didn’t arrive until 7.15am. There was no buffet. People who come early need to get on with their day, so this could be much better.

The family room was good value and the beds were comfortable, with service that was fine, though some reception staff were better than others. The rooms need renovating, and there was a slight smell in the corridors and bathroom, perhaps from cleaning products. The hotel is a little out of the way but near main roads, with easy access to shops and Newton Mearns. There’s a large pothole on the road near the reception entrance.

The room was just right for what I needed and expected from a Premier Inn. What wasn’t acceptable was the cleaners in the rooms on both sides of mine banging around and shouting at 10am. Check-out wasn’t until 12, and I was trying to sleep in and catch up after several days of missed sleep. A little courtesy would have helped.

The staff were fantastic and friendly throughout, and I was given a full refund after raising everything at checkout and contacting customer service the next day. But this was a poor stay for us, especially compared with the good experiences we've had at Premier Inns most of the time. The room was very dirty, with torn furniture, cracks in the ceilings and lots of mould in the bathroom. A fighting event at a venue up the road made the hotel very busy, and there was loud noise, shouting and drinking until after midnight. In the morning we found out the restaurant was being refurbished, so only a continental breakfast was available even though we'd paid for the full all-you-can-eat option. Some of these problems need addressing so they don't affect other guests.
