The Redhurst Hotel

We’ve looked forward to staying in the Garden Suite every year since it opened, so this was a real disappointment. We booked it on Christmas Eve, but left in less than an hour because the hot water was barely warm in both the bath and shower. We’d paid a lot specifically for the large copper bath, which was unusable. Water at that temperature would have been uncomfortable and unsafe to bathe in. The duty manager said nobody was available to fix it, understandable on Christmas Eve, but there was no sympathy or attempt to find a solution. He said he couldn’t call an emergency tradesperson because the thermostat showed no error. The receptionist brought us a kettle, but it soon became clear that filling a bath that size that way would take all night. There’s been no follow-up since, no call or email. I waited a month to write this, giving management a chance to call, and I’m still waiting. The lack of care and professionalism says it all. We won’t be back.

Breakfast was excellent, with continental options as well as hot dishes. The hotel was modern and very clean, and the staff made us feel welcome. We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed it. The location worked well for us, a short drive from the city centre, and there was plenty of parking. We’d definitely come back and highly recommend it.

We barely slept, even though my wife and I booked this getaway hoping to catch up on rest after having three children. The wedding party in the dance hall beneath our room went on until 1.30am. The night reception staff were useless, and with no other room available, we were stuck. We checked out at 7.30am and drove back to Edinburgh to catch up after an even more disrupted night than we’re used to. The hotel looked great when we arrived, and the staff were fine, but getting into the bar was difficult because a wedding was on. It’s a wedding venue, so that’s fair enough, but they could have told us when we booked. We also weren’t warned that our room was directly above the dance hall. A couple of days later I called to speak to the manager, but they weren’t in and I was promised a call back. Nothing. I emailed a week later, was told the manager was on holiday and they’d get back to me, but again there was no reply. This hotel could be a great place to stay and eat, but the manager is clearly incompetent. Check whether there’s a wedding on before booking, or you won’t get a good night’s sleep.

Lorraine, Amy and their staff made our wedding day magical, and it couldn’t have gone better. They were professional from start to finish, outstanding and so helpful. Amy and Lorraine, you’re both stars. You made me feel calm and beautiful, and helped make my dream wedding come true. We’re forever grateful, and I wouldn’t have chosen any other venue.
