The steak is well worth recommending. I was less impressed by the other dishes at our birthday meal: the king prawn linguine was nicely presented but not very flavoursome, and seemed to have only a few ordinary prawns, with no king prawns. The pan-roasted lamb rump was more like a roast. Its “rosemary jus” was gravy, and the “potato dauphinoise” had been replaced with roasted new potatoes. If I came back, I’d probably stick with the steak or maybe try the pie.

For my first visit, I was impressed and I’ll be back to try one of the famous roasts. We had steak and two baguettes with chips. Everything was cooked perfectly, the baguettes were fresh and generously filled, and the chips were lovely. My daughter asked for a custom order and the lovely lady who showed us to our room and gave us the menus was happy to arrange it. We were there for a private function. The building felt light and airy, and the staff were friendly.

We didn’t stay, so I can’t say anything about the rooms. Breakfast was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We’d go back and recommend it.

The food was very good, but we won’t be going back. At £25 per head, this wasn’t on. The manager came to our party’s table, loudly and aggressively saying we’d ordered too many dishes and warning us about a £7 charge for each dish left uneaten. He made sure the whole place heard, which was embarrassing. Some of our party left hungry. This all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant felt more like a place where the manager decides what you’re allowed to eat. I could never recommend it.
