I went back after my last review and tried the Steak and Kidney pie after hearing someone mention it. It was incredible, the best I’ve ever had, with a huge, tasty serving. If you only have one pie in your life, make it this one! The welcome is really friendly, and there’s great food, beer and banter.

We had Sunday lunch outside on a sunny day, with loads of tenderly cooked beef and every vegetable you could think of. There were other meats available too, along with other menu options, and the lunches were amazing. The garden is immaculate, with lovely views over a pond or lake. There’s plenty of parking straight off the main road leading to Hartpury University, and the staff are friendly and attentive. The bar area is cosy, and the hotel attached to the pub looked very nice.

There’s a fishing lake out back, and the dining room is just as cosy as the pub itself. The food was delicious, and the beer was lovely. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere make this a delightful country pub, easy to get to from Gloucester Road. Highly recommended.

We hadn’t planned to stop, but popped in for lunch and really enjoyed it. Good value, and the staff were very sociable. We didn’t visit the lakes since fishing isn’t our thing. We’d definitely come back.
