The Crown Inn

We'd passed this old inn the year before and finally stayed there. It lived up to the promise: charming, full of character inside, and lovely from the outside too. Our room was tidy, clean and cosy, while the restaurant was a beautiful space with a great atmosphere. The food was exceptionally good, and the staff were warm, attentive and friendly. We can't wait to come back.

The fire really brings out the brilliant atmosphere, and the team were friendly and helpful. BELLA and LIV deserve a special mention for staying cheerful and pitching in despite a colleague being ill and the place being short staffed. It's a beautiful building over 400 years old, so the floors creak and the beams are low. Expect four-poster beds, but no chandelier!

The building is stunning, and being listed seems well deserved. I only came in for a drink, but the service and atmosphere were great. Some of the furniture looked worn and tired, though I took that as a sign of a good gastro pub. I'd visit again.

We hadn't been back in over a year after a rude barman put us off. I think he comes up in one or two other reviews. This time was a completely different story: the service was really friendly, especially from one young lad who joked around with us. The food was good before, but now I'd call it really good. It's a lovely old pub, cosy and with a nice atmosphere. We only came to eat, so I can't comment on the rooms, but we'll definitely be back.
