The home baked steak and ale pie was so tender it melted in my mouth, and the lamb hotpot was just as good. We were served straight away at our table, and the food came quickly. We’d only popped in during a road trip because this was the nearest pub, just off the main road, but we were impressed by the building and its tasteful decor inside. The food was amazing. Wish we could go again!

We weren’t staying at The Derby, just reviewing the meals. We knew there’d been recent management changes and that most of the team from The Strickland Arms had moved over. The welcome was friendly, and we were very pleased with the portions and food quality. There were plenty of menu options, plus more on the specials board. I had the excellent fish pie with generous pieces of fish, including salmon, and vegetables. My husband chose steak and ale pie with chips and vegetables. The pies are properly made, not just pastry on top, and they’re making a feature of them, with three to choose from. One was definitely vegetarian and might have been vegan, but I’m not sure. Thanks, and well done 👏👏

A classic pub meal, served quickly and pleasantly. The pheasant special was great, though a little over-spiced. Our group rated the chips highly, and the sorbets were a lovely way to finish.

We walked over from our caravan site on a cold, dry, lovely day and were met by a warm fire and friendly staff. The atmosphere was relaxed. Our soup and sandwich were tasty, then we finished with biscoff cheesecake 😋. The staff were fantastic 👏

We won’t be back. The beetroot was unbelievably vinegary, and I hoped the pasta main might balance out the acidity, but it tasted as if someone had spilled a whole pot of salt into it. I couldn’t eat it. Nobody on the staff even asked how the food was. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.
