After nearly two years living in the area, we’ve finally found the kind of place we’d been hoping for. Stefan and Rebecca made us feel welcome as soon as we walked into the Hare & Hounds and looked after us brilliantly. The featherblade beef was perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavour. We couldn’t fault the evening, and can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu. This place is a real find!

The people running this place really make it stand out, and the recent refurbishment seems to have kept most of its charm. We stopped by on Sunday afternoon and got a warm welcome, dogs included. The roast beef was excellent, cooked just on the rare side, and the £20 dinner came with all the vegetables on the plate, so ask when ordering if there’s something you’d rather avoid, like the cauliflower cheese I got. The Landlord pint was fine, though I’ve had better. If you’re hungry, you’ll want more than the main course.

We’d planned to eat at the Mason Arms, but they were fully booked, so we ended up finding this lovely little pub in a beautiful spot. The food was fantastic and I was well catered for as a meat eater. Vegetarian choices were pretty limited, though, which wasn’t so good for my partner. Book a table, you won’t regret it. Highly recommend.

Dinner with my parents and our dog went well. The food was delicious and the service was pretty good. My £35 steak came without the chips I expected, but they brought them after I asked. Apart from that, all was good, and it’s very dog friendly.

The countryside around the inn is lovely, with great walks nearby, and the staff were just as lovely. We had a good laugh with one waitress over her love of mushy peas. Our dog was pleased to find treats and a ball waiting in the room. We stayed over Christmas and the room was stunning, cosy and beautifully decorated. There was an inviting freestanding bath, and the body wash smelled delicious. Dinner was top notch too: steak pie, fish and chips, then a cheese board and chocolate and raspberry tart. Everything was perfect. The whole atmosphere has that gorgeous country pub feel. Couldn’t recommend it more.
