Even in an awful snowstorm, I got here with hardly any trouble. The bus station is just a few steps from the hostel, which was great, though it’s in a particular part of the Lake District. This was my first visit to the area and my first time staying in a hostel, and this experience has me keen to do it again. I had a room to myself, and the people I came across were considerate and kind. The staff were incredibly nice, too. Breakfast was good. I only had the continental option, but it seemed like plenty, with bread, cereals, porridge and drinks. Thanks for everything!

The shared shower and toilet were clean and pleasant, and the other facilities were fantastic. Our spacious four-bedroom room worked well for the family and had its own sink. It’s a great base for exploring the Lake District. My only niggle was the mattresses. I understand the economies of scale at an institution like YHA, but I never sleep very well on them.

Chief was so welcoming when I’d had a tough day on the hills, and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful too. I liked the system for claiming a bed, it’s a good idea. Such a beautiful location. I’ll be staying again.

The hostel is close enough to amble into the village for a pub, and it’s in a great spot for leaving the car in the car park and heading elsewhere on foot or by bus. I had a lovely three-night stay.

The location is fantastic, and the team made things easy, especially the overnight staff I spoke with about a few things like booking taxis. I camped here for two nights and soon felt relaxed, safe and comfortable. People of all ages and backgrounds came and went, and it felt like a very natural space. Thanks to the team, and thank you.
