Edit after the reply: I’ve worked in plenty of pubs, and the claim that one person is working is the joke here. This place advertises a phone number and then doesn’t answer it. I rang non-stop for ten minutes, and instead of apologising or improving the system so callers don’t just get a tone, you attacked me. You’re the one with bad reviews, not me. Maybe try doing better. Do your staff have bladder problems? I think number 2s roll downhill, and it starts with you. Calling people idiots and fools is a mistake. Remember what you said when I come in to see you, and let’s see if you have that same energy. See you soon. Awful pub, avoid. I can’t stand a place that won’t answer the phone. Every call should count as potential business, and every missed call is money lost. There’s no excuse.

It was extremely hot when we stayed, so I was glad someone had put a fan in the room. The hair dryer took a bit of finding, then I spotted it on the landing with the iron. The location is handy, just a short walk from the station, with good restaurants nearby. The pub itself feels cosy and friendly. We stayed two nights. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the shower was good. The fridge and microwave were really useful.

I was at a family member’s wake recently. He thought of this as his family local, and now I understand why. The pub has a lovely local feel, with nice staff, good food and beer. They did him and his family proud.

We went in as a group of 11, and most of us ordered drinks, though a few didn’t. One staff member, who seemed to be a manager or an especially overbearing bar worker, was rude and patronising. In a horrible tone, she told us, “this isn’t a social pub.” We were followed to our table by a younger staff member, who told those without drinks to buy one or leave. So we all left, whether we’d bought a drink or not. We’re all 18 or 19, and nobody asked any of us for ID. Do the staff know about the Challenge 25 rule? The pub itself is called the jolly drayman, but there was nothing jolly about the service. Appalling, and I won’t be back.
