The grounds are lovely, with plenty of greenery for walks and a retreat, and there are lots of meeting spaces. We found the food tasty, the bar decent and the service good. But my room was cramped, with hardly anywhere to put a suitcase or clothes beyond a small wall closet for a few shirts. The shower cubicle was tiny and impractical. For a short retreat it could work, but I wouldn't find it comfortable for overseas guests staying longer with luggage. The bathrooms really need attention.

The breakfast team were fantastic when I mentioned that some dishes had run out. They refilled them and let me know as soon as fresh food was ready, though guests shouldn't have to ask. There didn't seem to be enough staff for the number of people eating that morning. The place felt basic, dated, cramped and tired, with some dirty areas. A few parts looked fresher, but most need updating soon. In the bedroom, several plugs were blocked off or marked not to use, and some plugged-in cables had loose, exposed wires.

I had a quiet night in the Coach House, and it was lovely to open the back door onto the ponds and their fountain. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good and the tea-making facilities were handy. Breakfast had a decent choice and was included, though it was cold, perhaps because I went down late. The building and grounds are beautiful, and the location suited my one-night stay. Better than the Travelodge!

There were so many lovely spots around the grounds for photos, and we had plenty of choice in how to decorate the beautiful venue. My husband and I got married at Missenden Abbey in May, and it was just right for us. The staff helped throughout the planning and stayed committed right through the wedding day. We chose the BBQ option, which worked really well for us and our guests. We can't wait to visit again as a married couple in the years ahead.

I've been to Missenden Abbey several times for events, and it's always a beautiful place to visit. The tree that takes up so much space is especially lovely; I hope it keeps thriving there forever. Hearing that the property might be sold really upsets me, because it's such a great place to spend time.
