Belvedere Guest House, Great Yarmouth

They took my money, then no one was there to let us in and we were left stranded. The hotel was a mess. Five days later I’m still out of pocket with no call back, and every number provided says they don’t deal with the hotel. Please avoid this place.

Avoid. The place looks shut down. Agoda agreed to a refund, but the hotel refused it. They’re taking your money when you can’t get in, which seems like fraud.

There’s very little on-street parking, and not enough spaces for all the rooms. Inside, the hotel needs a thorough clean and maintenance. At times, with the bedroom window open, there was a sewage smell. The shower worked, but had almost no pressure, and there was hair on the walls and in the tray. Its door wouldn’t close properly, and the broken handle had masking tape over it. The room had no fan or hairdryer, although we’d been told there would be. The mattress was only a couple of millimetres thick and uncomfortable. You could hear everyone coming and going because there was no soundproofing. The window handle was broken too, and the TV remote was grim and didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned.

Possibly the worst hotel ever. The room hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest: dirty towels, half-drunk coffee cups, an unmade bed and a bin full of rubbish. Customer service was useless and very hard to reach. I think they’re in India. After two hours, they eventually said they’d clean it the next day. We left and checked into another hotel. When I asked for a refund, they blamed me for the state of the room. I expect this will end up in court...
