We were celebrating my big birthday with friends, and the staff even left a card, maccarons and drinks vouchers in my room. We’d upgraded and started the celebrations in the vip lounge. At dinner, the staff were attentive and lovely, gave me another birthday card and a drink in a glass I could keep. A guitarist sang beautifully and entertained us all night. The rooms were clean and well furnished, and the beds really comfortable. In the morning, we had a marvellous hot and cold breakfast, then coffee and pastries in the vip lounge. The staff were warm, helpful and welcoming from check-in onwards, especially Seanna, Gwenno, Magda and Craig. I’m local, but I’d happily return to Ty Newport. I’ve been telling friends and family about it and am already looking forward to another visit.

Parking at the hotel was easy, but there’s a £13.50 charge for the night. Take the entry ticket to reception when you arrive, since the car park uses ANPR. If your ticket isn’t read when you leave or the parking isn’t paid, you could get a £100 fine. We stayed at Ty Newport, Room 133, on 23 January 2026 to see a show at ICC Wales, about half a mile away. We’d read there was a minibus between the venue and the hotel, part of the Celtic Manor Hotel, but were told on arrival it wasn’t running this time. They said an UBER would be cheapest. It was about £6 each way per car and took under five minutes. They say you can walk it in 15 minutes, though you have to cross busy roads and carriageways. The reception staff, Magda, Syeda and another young woman, were polite and courteous on Friday night and Saturday morning. The fairly large, clean room had a chair, low table and big wall-mounted TV. It had a hairdryer, iron and ironing board, kettle, and regular tea and coffee, but no Green Teabags. The bed was quite comfortable. We ate in the CASA area, having a Smashed Burger with chips and a Chicken pesto sandwich without tomatoes. They weren’t cheap, but were tasty. The Cruz campo and cider and black on draught were refreshing, at around £6 a glass. The bar and restaurant staff were excellent. I woke around 5 am to what sounded like something scraping across a nearby floor, probably a delivery. Behind our room was the lower building’s rear roof, the main dual carriageway and the hotel delivery area.

The hotel itself was beautiful, had good amenities and was very handy for visiting our family in Wales. Breakfast was a knockout, and the breakfast hosts were friendly and attentive. Syeda at reception was great too, as were the restaurant staff. I’d stay again if these issues were sorted. We had two children, a toddler and a newborn, and a lot of things to carry. I was struggling with the baby’s bed and other items in the foyer, spotted a luggage trolley by the lifts and asked the receptionist if I could use it. She just said yes and didn’t offer to get it, although reception was empty and she didn’t seem busy. We’d requested a cot because our toddler isn’t in a proper bed yet, but the room was made up with two singles and a double, which didn’t suit our family, even though the reservation asked for the children’s ages. The room service was disappointing too. The empty Coke glasses we’d left on the table weren’t collected, the mugs were left upside down, and the table hadn’t been wiped. The baby’s spilled milk powder was still there from before we went out, and the tea tray wasn’t restocked.

Bethan went out of her way when I was sick with a fever. She made sure my room heating worked and brought me ginger and lemon tea and honey after seeing how unwell I was. Gwenno checked on me the next morning and made sure I was all right before I left for the two-day ICC food show.wales exhibition. I was very impressed with the place, the service and especially the staff.

Thank you for a lovely stay. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. Tomasz in the dining room deserves a special mention. He was such a lovely young man, professional, helpful and friendly, and his colleagues were exceptional too. Please pass on our thanks to him especially.
