Glamping Pod One - Holly Tree Barns

The footpaths were well kept, and there were lots of routes to explore with the dog each morning using our OS maps. It was a lovely, peaceful place to stay. The flies were the real downside. Suffolk bin collections are every two weeks, and oddly they don't recycle glass, so the bins shared by the three cottages were already full and crawling with maggots in the heat. We went through a whole box of 24 fly papers in a week, which we had to buy ourselves to try to deal with them.

We'd happily book this barn again next year. Our section slept six, with two double rooms and one twin, plus two bathrooms. One double bedroom and one bathroom are downstairs, and both floors look out across open farmland. Just be aware that getting upstairs means using a spiral staircase.

It was clean and really quiet, a good place to get away during the pandemic. I loved the downstairs and the quirky spiral stairs to the top floor. The house was okay, though the ensuite shower couldn't be used while we were there. The kitchen ceiling showed signs of an earlier flood, which had left the shower unavailable.

At night it was almost silent, with hardly any distant traffic, which made the place feel eerily relaxing. It's an unbelievable location, tucked away in nature with nothing much around. We spotted a Chinese Water Deer outside the back door that morning, along with a kestrel and a majestic black dog.
