It rained for most of the weekend, but we still had a good time, and there’s lots to see and do nearby. This is how a village pub should be run: the room was modernised, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a few nights. My wife is coeliac, and the food was excellent for her. We liked being able to choose small or large portions for the main courses. There were two hand-pulled local beers, a good keg beer selection, and even alcohol-free beer on tap. Hope to return when the sun’s out.

Thank you for making eating out feel normal. I’m coeliac and intolerant to milk, and they were able to cater for both. I had the gluten-free turkey Christmas dinner, with the same things my husband could have: Yorkshire pudding, gravy and stuffing. I can manage a little dairy now and then, so I could have a Yorkshire pudding while eating out too, since they make theirs with Cornflour, as we do at home. The Christmas pudding with vegan brandy custard was lovely 😋 We’ll be back 😉

We had a lovely family lunch here at the weekend. The portions were generous and the prices very reasonable. Their signature shoulder o' mutton is well worth recommending. One 92-year-old gentleman in our group said it was the best lamb he’d ever eaten.

We came in the evening for a Sunday roast and were pleasantly surprised. The steak and ale pie was really good, and there were a couple of local beers available. Sitting beside the proper fire in the old fireplace was a treat, something that’s hard to find now in the area’s newly renovated pubs. It would be nice to see a couple more ales from smaller local breweries, though that may depend on who owns the place. I’ll be back. Can’t believe I hadn’t visited before!
