Springdale Guest House

Caroline and Nigel were so friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful, and breakfast was excellent. I’d highly recommend Springdale Guest House to anyone visiting Harrogate.

We had a wonderful birthday stay for two nights, and Nigel and Caroline were truly lovely hosts. The guesthouse is gorgeous, beautifully furnished and spotless. Everything felt carefully thought through, from the fluffy robes and welcome wine to the complimentary drinks in the fridge, plentiful toiletries and fresh-smelling laundry. Nigel also told us about Harrogate’s history, and his stories were both fascinating and really informative. Breakfast was lovely. Caroline recommended yoghurt with warm compote, which was delicious, followed by a beautifully cooked full English with homemade fresh toast. Nigel welcomed us warmly, showed us to our room and kindly offered to carry our bags. The only niggle was check-out. We had the last breakfast slot and knew check-out was at 11. Since we’d only just finished eating at 11, we asked how flexible it was and said we were fine to leave on time. We were told there was no rush and to take our time, so we did. We were ready to go at 12:25, but just before leaving, there was a knock at the door reminding us sharply to leave. I understand why check-out times need to be kept, but after being told there was no rush, it felt a bit like being told off. We’d have preferred clear instructions from the start.

A lovely room, a fantastic breakfast and a great host. The town centre is only a short walk away, and there’s free parking. You honestly couldn’t ask for a better guest house.

Caroline and Nigel were great hosts, and the room was spotless and equipped as described. We had a small bottle of wine and chocolates on arrival, and Nigel sorted parking for us by providing permits for the road. The location was handy for walking into town, and breakfast was well cooked with options available. The mattress felt a bit uncomfortable to us because it was different from ours at home. The quilt was far too thick and hot, which disturbed our sleep, and the birds were noisy at 6am. The shower was powerful and hot, but the shower head was grubby and could do with changing. It was a good stay overall, and I’d recommend the guest house.
