The Comet London Hatfield

The building we stayed in was newer, clean and had AC, plus an amazing large shower with hot water. There's a restaurant and bar with friendly service, and the bar has lots of room and different places to lounge. A very nice stay, one of the better ones I've had while travelling.

This is my second time here and I love it. The rooms are great, the food is lovely, and the staff are excellent. While I was eating, a waitress noticed I'd been working outside all day and offered to turn up the heating for me. I'm here for work, so I can't say much about the area, but I could see the Hatfield Galleria, which seems like a decent sign. I'll be back and recommend it.

We checked in late and found a nasty smell in the room and a large, bright yellow stain on the carpet that looked like it might be urine. It was extremely unpleasant and not what we'd expect from a 4-star hotel. I called reception straight away and spoke with Calam. The response felt dismissive: I was told the stain would be dry, so it should be fine. I explained several times that, dry or not, nobody would want to walk over or around it, especially on the way to the bathroom at night. Only after I raised the concern repeatedly did someone suggest there might be a chance to move rooms. The lack of urgency, concern and basic customer care was very disappointing. Cleanliness and service are basic standards, especially for a hotel claiming to be 4-star, and this fell well below that. We've found budget hotels such as Travelodge to be much cleaner and better on customer service. It was a very poor start to our stay, and not the standard we expected.

The reception staff were welcoming and really helpful. The rooms have clearly been thought through too, with plenty of plugs, including one on each side of the bed. I haven’t found that at a hotel in a long time. 🙂
