We came in as walk-ins for drinks, then ordered three dishes after clearly telling the waitress that everything had to be vegan for my girlfriend. She agreed, but when another waitress brought the food, she called it vegetarian. We checked and reminded her we’d asked for vegan, but she said nothing and walked away. Later she said it couldn’t be vegan because it used oyster sauce, which was surprising since the menu lists the dishes as vegetarian. When we queried that, she changed her explanation to say it was a different sauce. We weren’t sure what was in the food, so sent it back. Nobody apologised. The returned dish was still on the bill, and when we asked why we were charged for food we hadn’t eaten, the waitress said it had been made as vegan/vegetarian. She then discussed it with someone else loudly enough for us and the next table to hear, which was very unprofessional. They eventually removed the dish, again without an apology. If this had been an allergen rather than a vegan request, it could have been very serious. Anyone with dietary requirements should be careful.

Our visiting granddaughters and their boyfriends absolutely loved dinner at Nine Jars. The cocktails were great, the food fabulous, and the service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff. Lovely atmosphere too. We’ll definitely be back.

I was away for work training and liked the room. The food was a letdown, though. They’d run out of mashed potato in the evening, even though it was listed with two meals. At breakfast there was no orange juice, brown bread or pastries, all of which were advertised on the menu. I’ve never stayed anywhere that had no orange juice at breakfast. I don’t like focusing on the negatives, but I wish I’d known before booking 😔

The staff were fantastic, incredibly kind and friendly. A few of them took time to chat with me, a lonely traveler far from home, and helped me feel less alone, even if only for a few minutes. I really appreciate that. I stayed for three weeks and have no complaints about the cosy room, comfortable bed or great restaurant food. It was tasty and, for someone travelling, never once made me feel even slightly ill. The Wildflower is an absolutely delicious drink. My one minor gripe, where’s the top sheet, English people? I’m a fat American and basically a human radiator, so I don’t need a duvet. I need a top sheet. This is about the whole country, not the hotel. Please work on it.

We went to a themed dinner with friends and will come back for another one. The atmosphere was a pleasure, and it’s probably the best venue in town. The greeting and waiting staff were cheerful and friendly. Food was plentiful and nicely presented. It was a popular night and they fitted in a lot of tables, so service involved some short waits. I’d recommend Nine Jars.
