The Shipwrights Arms

Lots of character in this really nice pub on the Helford River. We didn’t try the toast, though it looked delicious.😋.

Right in the middle of a lovely quiet village, with a lovely river view. The food was fantastic.

We only got to have a drink, since food wasn’t served until 5.00pm and the outside tables filled up quickly on that sunny day. It was really busy from 5.00pm, with everyone seeming to arrive at once. I’d seen it advertised and wanted to visit while we were in the area on holiday in August 2025, which was my first time there. The views over the river and the surrounding area are fantastic, and it’s very picturesque. I’d definitely come back and try a meal next time.

The location and views are lovely, but the service was terrible. We went in around 1pm on a rainy summer holiday day, and it was quieter than I’d expected, with no one using the outside tables. We were told to sit down and wait for someone, then sat for 15 minutes before a waiter came over. When I asked to order, she said we couldn’t because the pub only had 2 tablets, and we weren’t allowed to order at the bar either. Another 5 minutes passed before someone asked if we wanted a drink. I also asked about ordering food, but was told we’d have to wait for someone else who was busy. We didn’t have much time, so we gave up and went somewhere else. Such a shame, but I wouldn’t recommend this pub to people I know.
