Our host made us feel very welcome, and the garden was so peaceful and private. We enjoyed sitting out there in the chairs we'd brought from home, though we did have visitors too ❤️ The cottage is lovely. It’s older than the properties at Beamish and a bit dated, but that’s part of its charm.
We had a great week here with the dogs, and the cottage made a good base for touring the Hadrian's Wall area. It’s a lovely old fashioned place, though the decor could use a little freshening up. Nothing about it put us off. We found the paintings in the second bedroom unsettling, and we were glad nobody had to sleep in there. We said good morning to them every day, and they mostly left us alone, apart from hiding the cheese and one of my wife's earrings! We enjoyed taking our time cooking on the Aga, and the steam powered microwave was a delight.
The cottage had everything we needed, and our dogs loved it as much as we did. Some of the decor is a bit tired, but it only adds to the rustic charm. We'd never used an Aga before and had fun with it. We were there in February and stayed cozy, needing the central heating for only a couple of hours in the morning, then using the open fire in the evenings.
