The Shady Oak Inn

We went in late on a Sunday evening and found the pub spotless, with attentive staff. The roast beef Sunday dinner was delicious and faultless, and the price was very reasonable too. I’ll certainly be coming again. First, I’d disregard all the reviews.

We sat outside and watched the world go by, with lovely views from a fantastic location. The food was really nice, and the updated menu had a good range to suit everyone. There’s a good choice of beers, non-alcoholic beers and other drinks too. It had been several years since we last popped in, so we wanted to try it again under the new management. The staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. We’ll be back, and it’s well worth a visit whether you’re local or just passing through.

Breakfast ended up being the best part of our stay. The owners had it ready for our schedule and even lit the fire beside the table we'd picked. The pub has a warm, historic feel, and dinner there was delicious and great value, so we came back for breakfast too. We'd booked because the room seemed such good value and its 10-minute drive to Buxton suited our trip through the Peaks. The room was clean and comfortable, everything worked as it should, and we knew where to go if anything went wrong from the check-in. There was free WiFi, plenty of facilities and toiletries, plus free parking on site. We felt completely at home, thanks to how thoughtful the owners were. The Shady Oak was a lovely start to our trip. We'd happily recommend a stop for food or a drink, even without staying overnight.

Already looking forward to coming back. The staff were so friendly, polite and helpful, and the excellent breakfast was a real highlight. The room was clean and comfortable, and I had the best night's sleep. It's one of our favourite places to visit now. We heard a refurb is coming soon, so perhaps it'll be even better.
