Laburnum House Lodge Hotel

My wife and I were so upset by the place that we had to find another hotel, which cost us even more and ruined the start of our short break. The owner wouldn’t give us a full refund and said he felt there was nothing wrong. Our self-catering accommodation was passed off as clean and tidy, but it was filthy. As soon as we opened the door, we were hit by the smell of smoke and damp. The floor felt soft and spongy, and tiles were hanging off the wall. The owner offered another room, which was better but still dirty. There were young people hanging around outside, and we felt very unsafe. There were no social distancing measures in place, which we would have expected at the time. I’d be ashamed to run a business like this. I recommend staying well away. Avoid at all costs.

The room was hidden in a corner of the site, with slug trails across the carpet and five or six spiders inside. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned for some time. One pillowcase was stained, and the TV barely worked. We just wanted to get out and didn’t even use the bathroom or shower. Checking out meant leaving the key in the room and walking out. The place was dirty, untidy and badly kept, as if abandoned. The reception was a small building with the lights on but nobody there. We called the number on the window and reached someone on call, who gave us the price and came to take payment. Then we were led through the dirty, closed pub and bar to another reception, where we paid and got our room key. Avoid it, don’t waste your time.

The food is amazing and comes in large portions, and the beds are comfortable. The staff are nice too. The place is a little outdated, but nothing too serious. The gym was really poor, with a dirty smell and very little working equipment. The pool was a reasonable size, but when I posted this the heating system was broken, and I don’t know if it’s been fixed. Not a bad place, but it could be better.

We had a great stay and can’t wait to come back. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, the rooms were perfect, and the pool was lovely and warm. They welcomed our dogs and were very accommodating with the children. Definitely recommend.
